How a para swimming race works
- Para swimming is freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and medley for swimmers with an eligible impairment. The stroke rules follow swimming's.
- Swimmers race within sport classes. Physical classes run from S1, the most limited, to S10; S11 to S13 are for vision impairment, S11 the most severe; S14 for intellectual impairment.
- Some swimmers may start in the water instead of diving. For the most vision-impaired, a tapper at the end of the lane taps them with a pole as they near the wall.
- Swimmers are seeded into heats by time, and the fastest in the final wins.
