What does Confirmed status mean in para sport?

I · Intermediate · The process · 3 of 3
Checked 15 October 2026

Every sport class carries a status. Confirmed means the class is unlikely to change. Review at the next available opportunity applies to borderline athletes or after a sole classifier. Review with a fixed review date sets a later re-check, usually within four years. Expired is the fourth. An unclassified athlete is New.

How it works

  • Confirmed (C): unlikely to change.
  • Review (R-NAO): next opportunity.
  • Fixed date (R-FRD): after a set date.
  • Fixed date: not before year end.
  • Usually: within four years.
  • Expired (E): fourth status.
  • New (N): not yet classified.
  • CNC: classification not completed.

The glossary has the sport class status, the confirmed status, the review status, the fixed review date, the classification master list and the evaluation session.

Tricky cases

An athlete was seen by one classifier. Status?

Can a fixed review date fall this season?

Is New a sport class status?

No. It is a designation.

Does a protest change status?

An accepted one leads to review.

Why the rule exists
