Which para rowing events are at the Paralympics?

I · Intermediate · Racing · 1 of 2
Checked 14 October 2026

Paris 2024 had five para rowing events: PR1 men's and women's single sculls, the PR2 mixed double sculls, the PR3 mixed double sculls and the PR3 mixed coxed four. In mixed boats half the rowers are men and half women. A PR3 coxed four may include two visually impaired rowers, at most one B3. Coxswains may or may not have an impairment.

How it works

  • PR1: M1x and W1x.
  • PR2: Mix2x.
  • PR3: Mix2x and Mix4+.
  • Mixed crews: half men, half women.
  • PR3 Mix4+: up to two vision-impaired rowers, one B3 at most.
  • PR3 Mix2x: one vision-impaired rower, B1 or B2.
  • Coxswains: no age limit; minimum weights apply.
  • World Championships: more events, including under-23.

The glossary has the Paralympic boat classes (rowing), the World Rowing Championships para events, the crews in para events, the PR3 subclasses, the standard para rowing boat and the minimum impairment criteria (para rowing).

Tricky cases

Does the cox count in the half-and-half rule?

No.

Can a PR3 double include a B3 rower?

No. One B1 or B2 only.

Must a cox have an impairment?

No.

Is the 2028 programme fixed?

It follows the IPC's decision.

Why the rule exists

Mixed crews give equal places to men and women. Limits on B3 rowers keep the four from relying on the least impaired.
