How a para alpine race works
- Para alpine skiing is ski racing for athletes with a physical or vision impairment, with the same events as alpine skiing, from downhill to slalom.
- Athletes race in three categories: vision impaired, standing and sitting. Sitting skiers race in a sit-ski, a moulded seat on one ski or two, and steer with short crutches with ski tips.
- A vision impaired skier races behind a sighted guide, who leads by voice and must pass every gate.
- Within each category, skiers have different classes. Each skier's time is multiplied by a factor for their class and event, and the lowest factored time wins.
