Can a Muay Thai result be protested?
A · Advanced · Scoring and results · 2 of 5An athlete wins by walkover if the opponent does not appear within 2 minutes of the bell or fails the weigh-in, and by retirement if the opponent stays in the corner, quits after a count or is retired by their second. A team manager may protest within 30 minutes (5 in a gold medal bout), paying 500 US dollars.
How it works
- Walkover: the opponent does not appear within 2 minutes, or fails the weigh-in.
- Retirement: the opponent does not come out, quits after a count or the towel comes in.
- Disqualification: the opponent wins; the disqualified athlete loses medals from that stage.
- No contest: outside causes, such as ring damage, unresolved after 10 minutes.
- Early incident: in the first minute, the bout is fought again later.
- Protest window: 30 minutes, or 5 minutes in a gold medal bout.
- Fee: 500 US dollars; 400 back if upheld.
- Who: the team manager, in writing to the Technical Delegate or jury chair.
