How a match works, in a minute
How a kurash bout works
- Kurash is a standing wrestling sport from Central Asia. Two athletes in jackets and belts grip each other and try to throw the opponent to the mat. There is no fighting on the ground.
- A clean throw onto the back, khalol, wins the bout at once.
- A strong throw onto the side is a yonbosh, and two of them make a khalol. A throw onto the buttocks is a chala, the lowest score.
- If time runs out without a khalol, the higher score wins: one yonbosh beats any number of chalas.
How long
A senior men's bout lasts four minutes and a senior women's bout three.
