How a match works, in a minute
How a gatka bout works
- Gatka is the Sikh martial art played as a sport, with a stick, the soti, in place of a sword, and in one event a small leather shield, the farri.
- Two players fight in a circle 30 ft across, scoring with clean, mild touches of the stick.
- A touch above the belt scores 2, below the belt 1, and on the back or the back of the legs 3.
- The player with more points wins. Level points go to a one-minute tie-breaker.
How long
Two rounds of 90 seconds with a 30-second break. A salute, the fatehnama, opens and closes the bout.
