What are the official dartboard measurements?
Officials' detail · The board, the darts and the oche · 1 of 4An official board is bristle, made of sisal, with the numbers 1 to 20 in the standard clock order and the 20 at the top in the darker colour. It has a 50 bull, a 25 ring, a treble ring and a double ring. The doubles ring is 340 mm across and the whole board about 451 mm.
How it works
- Material: sisal, bristle type, approved by the WDF.
- Pattern: the 1 to 20 clock pattern.
- Inner bull: scores 50; inside diameter 12.7 mm.
- Outer bull ring: scores 25; inside diameter 31.8 mm.
- Treble ring: scores three times the segment; outer edge 107.4 mm from the centre.
- Double ring: scores twice the segment; outer edge 170 mm from the centre, 340 mm across.
- Ring width: 8 mm inside to inside on wire boards.
- Wires: round, triangular or diamond, between 1.27 and 1.85 mm, lying flat or set into the board.
- Whole board: 451 mm across.
- The 20: at the top centre, in the darker of the two colours.
- Changing or turning the board: at a player's request if the opponent agrees, before a match or between legs, by an official.
The glossary has the dartboard, the dartboard dimensions, the double / treble, the bullseye, the board change and the scoring a dart.
Tricky cases
Why is the 20 next to the 1 and the 5?
The clock order mixes high and low numbers so that a missed 20 is punished. The rules require the standard pattern but do not explain it.
Can a player ask for a different board mid-match?
Only between legs, and only if the opponent agrees. A tournament official makes the change.
Are electronic soft-tip boards covered?
No. These rules require sisal bristle boards and steel-pointed darts.
How wide is the treble ring?
8 mm inside to inside on a wire board, the same as the double ring.
Why the rule exists
A fixed size and pattern let a player's practice at home carry over to any match. Thin, flat wires reduce bounce-outs.
