How a match works, in a minute
How a darts match works
- Each player starts on a set total, usually 501, and takes turns to throw three darts. The score of each throw is taken off what is left.
- A dart scores the segment it lands in. The treble ring scores three times the number, the double ring twice, and the centre bull 50.
- A player must finish on exactly zero, with the last dart in a double or the bull. Going below zero, or reaching zero without a double, is a bust: none of that throw counts.
- The first to check out wins the leg. A match is the best of an odd number of legs, or of sets made of legs.
Who throws first
Before a match each player throws one dart at the bull; the nearer throws first.
