How a boccia match works

1. Boccia is a Paralympic target sport. Seated athletes send red or blue balls from throwing boxes, by throwing, kicking or using a ramp.
2. Each end starts with one side sending the white jack. Then the side whose ball is not closest to it plays next.
3. When all the balls are played, the side with the closest ball scores a point for each of its balls nearer than the opponent's closest.
4. Points add up over the ends, and the higher total wins. A tied match goes to an extra end.

How long

Each side has its own clock for each end, from 3 minutes 30 seconds to 7 minutes depending on the class.
