How a match works, in a minute
How English billiards works
- There are three balls: a white for one player, a yellow for the other, and a red.
- A player scores by a pot, an in-off (their own ball going into a pocket off another ball) or a cannon (their ball hitting both other balls).
- A cannon scores two. Potting or going in-off the opponent's ball scores two; potting or going in-off the red scores three. One shot can score several of these.
- A player keeps playing while they score. A foul gives the opponent two points.
How a game is won
A game is played either to a set number of points, won by the first to reach it, or for a set time, won by whoever leads when it ends.
