- How do you win the pole vault?The pole vault is won by the athlete who clears the greatest height, using a pole planted in a box at the end of the runway.
- When is a pole vault a failure?A vault fails if the bar comes off its pegs because of what the athlete did while vaulting.
- Who decides the heights, and may an athlete skip one?The heights are announced before the competition and the bar is raised after each round of trials, by at least 5 cm.
- When is an athlete out of the competition?An athlete is out after three consecutive failures, whatever heights they happened at.
